ULGRID: University of Liverpool Grid

Project Investigator Dr. Steve Morgan

Scientific/ Technical Objectives Development of infrastructure to support Grid and HPC based applications at the University of Liverpool and build external academic and commercial collaborations. This project also acts as a feeder for new researchers / projects wishing to use NW-GRID. Ideally, ULGRID will provide Liverpool researchers with a seamless progression from the desktop to large scale systems such as NW-GRID onto national supercomputers such as HPC-X.

Role of NW-GRID NW-GRID provides one of the main computational components of ULGRID.

Applications Software GAMESS-UK, pcgamess, BLAST, Rosetta (protein shape optimisation)

Grid Software Condor-G, Globus, application specific web-interfaces sitting on top of Condor-G.

Progress to date Approximately 50,000 core hours have been consumed by Liverpool researchers on NW-GRID facilities working through ULGRID.

Publications

A paper combining the numerical modelling of protein structures with some on-going laboratory work is in preparation. This work accounted for about 80% of the above computation performed.
